Willa Savelle

Willa Steve Andrews Savelle, ninety-two died on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Willa was born to Stephen William and Kathleen Hudson Andrews on September 2, 1932. She grew up in Marianna, AR.

After graduating from high school in 1950, she attended the Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus. She graduated in 1954. She married Ike Winston Savelle, Sr. of Columbus in June of 1954.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Columbus and the Lewis Fellowship Sunday School Class. She worked at Camp Rising Sun, was a life member of the Columbus Junior Auxiliary, a Docent at the Stephen D. Lee Home for over 20 years and was a former member of the PEO.

She worked as an administrative assistant at the Demonstration School for 23 years. She developed a very special relationship with her workers and loved her job dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Ike Savelle, an infant daughter, Sara Sutton Savelle, her brothers and sisters-in-law, James A. and Mildred Andrews, Darthy and Thomas Tyrity, Bill and Betty Savelle and Ruth and Chester Savelle.

She is survived by her four children, Ike Winston Savelle, Jr. (Bonny), Stephen Andrews Savelle (Margaret), Kathleen Stripling (Kimball) and Leanne Savelle (Ron). Her 7 Grandchildren, Trey Savelle (Mary Lynn), Drew Savelle (Lauren), Nick Savelle, Anna Carrell (Jonathon), Collin Pulmano (Steven), Reese Traywick (Nick), Britt Stripling (Sarah), twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She is also survived by very special friends, Virginia (Bitty) Lindsey and Virginia (Sissy) McDonald.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbus, MS, with visitation at 1:00 p.m., service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
