Virginia Shepherd

VIRGINIA SHEPHERD - Virginia Baines "Gen" Shepherd, age 88, of Steens, MS, passed away August 31, 2026, at Arabella Health & Wellness of Vernon.  Graveside services will be Friday, September 4, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Honeycutt officiating and Dr. Bill Hurt assisting.  Visitation will be Friday, September 4, 2026, from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM at Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory.

     Mrs. Shepherd was born September 26, 1937, in Gordo, AL, to the late Gilbert and Anna Mitchell Baines.  She worked as a certified pharmacy technician for Alford Drug Store for many years and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, J. F. Shepherd, brother, James Baines, and sisters, Gladys Porter and Brenda Hunter.

     Survivors include her son, David Shepherd of Steens, MS, daughters, Regina Dimitry and her husband Dan of Sharps Chapel, TN, and Jill Walker and her husband Mike of Bonaire, GA, sister, Linda Baines of Steens, MS, grandchildren, Stephen Dimitry, Jennifer Dimitry, Emily Gloyd and her husband Tyler, Elizabeth Boyd, and Michael Walker, and great grandchildren, Asa Gloyd and Hilde Gloyd.  

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1383 Pleasant Hill Rd., Columbus, MS, 39702.  The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staffs of Amedisys Hospice and Arabella Health & Wellness of Vernon.
