Vesta Ann Christopher, of Austin, TX, passed peacefully in the early morning of July 29th, in the presence of her daughter, Kelley Cohen, her son-in-law Greg Cohen, and her grandchildren Skye Cohen and Caden Cohen.
A long-time resident of Burkburnett, TX, Vesta Ann Kelley was born on the tenth of April, 1937, in Claude, TX. She married a handsome young airman named Robert Alexander Christopher of Columbus, MS, on February 18th, 1957, in Clovis, NM, and they welcomed their daughter Kelley in October 1963. Vesta had a special calling as a mother, creating a bond that was extraordinary and carried on into her time as a grandmother. She loved her life as a military wife and especially enjoyed her time in Okinawa, but it was the early 70s in Columbus, MS, where she would discover her lifelong passion for golf. A fierce but fun competitor, she spent the next several decades perfecting her game, achieving at least one hole in one and several championships around the world. The only thing that could steal her attention from the golf course was her grandchildren. She brought joy to many, but few were as blessed as her daughter and grandchildren. With her constant support and abundantly caring nature, her presence in their lives was immeasurable.
She spent her final years in Austin, TX, where she was deeply treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her. It would be hard to find someone more respected and admired by those close to them than “Miss Vesta”. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Christopher, her sister Linda Beth Vert, her in-laws Jack Christopher, Joan Christopher, Margaret Richardson, Ginger Yeatman, and Buddy Yeatman. She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and sister Dana Luttrell of Claude, TX.
The family will gather from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4th, at Beersheba Presbyterian Church with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Tony Christopher, Chris Hardin, Bud Yeatman, Mark Evans, Mark Ward, and Lenny Ring. Graveside prayer will be led by Charlie Studdard. Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
