LT. TAMMY B. PRESCOTT
Lt. Tammy Baines Prescott, age 57, died Friday, September 20, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus, MS, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Services were held Monday, September 23, 2019, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Criddle, Rev. Anne-Russell Bradley and Rev. Aislinn Kopp officiating. The burial, with full Lowndes County Sheriff's Department Honors, followed at Piney Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
Tammy was born on Sunday, July 29,1962, in Columbus to the late Doyle and Betty Green Baines., She was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church in Steens,MS. She was a graduate of Lamar County High School in 1980. Tammy started her professional career as a draftsman for United Technologies. After getting a taste for law enforcement as a security officer at Mississippi College for Women she began to acquire more experience in security with the JC Penney Company. When the opportunity presented itself, she joined the Columbus Police Department and later transferred to the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department. She lovingly concentrated her efforts toward helping her community's improvement by assisting various local groups including Boy Scouts, YMCA, Headstart, and Camp Rising Sun, which held a very special place in her heart.
Preceded in death by her parents, Betty G. Baines, Steens, MS, Doyle Baines, Moline, IL: Maternal Grandparents Mr. and Mrs. G.B. Green Sr. of Steens, MS.; Paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Baines of Fernbank, AL.
Tammy is survived by her sister Pam Glover (Rice), of Columbus, and her brother Joe Baines (Laura) of LaGrange KY. Also, Tammy is survived by step children, Shea Prescott, Chris Prescott (Lesslie), Winn Prescott (Kellie Jo), Priscilla Prescott and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Tammy's family would especially like to thank the members of the Honor Guard of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Department and the members of Camp Rising Sun, who also served as Honorary Pallbearers.
