RUTH ANN JOHNSON - Ruth Ann Spivey Johnson, age 83, of Columbus, MS, passed away June 7, 2026, at Trinity Healthcare. Ruth Ann was born June 30, 1942 in Detroit, MI, to Lamar Edward Spivey and Alta Mae Miller Spivey. She graduated from S. D. Lee High School, Columbus, MS, in 1960 where she was a majorette and a member of the debate team. She attended East Central Junior College and moved to Richmond, VA, where she began a career in computer programming. She later moved to Washington, DC, working for IBM before returning to Columbus, MS. She retired from Logista in 2006. She returned to work part-time in 2018 for several years working for FEMA in areas impacted by natural disaster.
Ruth Ann was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, life member of Junior Auxiliary, member of Northwood Garden Club, Soroptimist Club and a volunteer for various charitable organizations. She was an avid player of duplicate bridge and enjoyed traveling to bridge tournaments. She loved reading, gardening, was an amazing cook and talented seamstress, making most of her girls' clothes when they were young.
She is survived by her brother Eddie (Patty) Spivey, Starkville, MS, her daughters, Lisa (Brad) Kilgore, Memphis, TN, Laura (Mike) Quinn, Columbus, MS, Candace Davis, Memphis, TN, her grandchildren, Justin Kilgore, David Kilgore, Aidan Davis, Dean Davis, all of Memphis, TN, Thomas (Elane) Quinn, Lynchburg, VA, Hunter Quinn, Starkville, MS, and her great-grandson, Lux Quinn, along with many other beloved relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 11:30 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service in the Earline Robertson Room of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to all who provided care, support and friendship during her life and final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church for their ministry to Loaves and Fishes, 318 College St., Columbus, MS, 39701.
