Mike Maloney
Micheal William Maloney died on Saturday May 2, 2026 at Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Columbus. Born on July 7, 1961 to parents John Maloney, D.C., and
Janet Maloney in Vernon, Alabama, and grew up in Reform, Alabama.
Mike and his wife Midge have lived in Columbus, since 1981. When he was
eighteen, he began working for Mitchell Engineering, hanging steel. Shortly
thereafter, the company was renamed Ceco Building Systems, which is now
Cornerstone. Mike worked for this company for 46 years and worked from home
when he passed. He started out in the plant, which manufactured steel
buildings; he worked his way up to the drafting department, where he became
manager and programmed software for the company. Recently, he worked as
Standards Corporate Manager. His work ethic was impeccable and appreciated
by his peers.
Mike enjoyed a good cookout, fishing, and boating with his son Matt and his
two grandchildren, Lucas and Leia Grace. He was a lifelong fan of University of
Alabama football and loved watching the games with his late brother Danny
Maloney and his brother Chris. He also enjoyed attending company
conventions, where he got to meet the people that worked in other parts of the
United States. These became lifelong friendships.
Mike loved to dance and he met his wife on the dancefloor, and they have
been dancing ever since. Mike loved 1980's music and frequently listened to it
when he had a chance.
For the past fifteen years, he and his wife lived in historic southside
Columbus, just blocks from downtown.
He is survived by his wife, Midge, his son Matt Maloney, and his daughter
Julie Lingle, son-in-law Glenn Lingle, his two grand children Lucas and Leia
Grace Maloney, his daughter-in-law Hope Maloney; his brother, Chris Maloney
and sisters Kathleen and Cheryl.
Mike was known to be a kind and loving person, and he will be greatly
missed. The family would like to thank the many Cornerstone employees who
sent flowers and hearfelt condolences.
