Melissa “Lisa” Ann Gibson, age 61, of Columbus, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced.
Born on May 28, 1965, in Warner Robins, Georgia, Lisa was the beloved daughter of Maggie Potter and the late Jimmy Potter. She made her home in Columbus, Mississippi, where she spent much of her life surrounded by family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness, warmth, and caring spirit touched the lives of many.
Lisa spent most of her life working as a waitress, a profession she truly enjoyed. Through the years, she formed countless friendships and was known for her welcoming smile, hard work, and genuine ability to make others feel like family. She never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone she served.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Joe Gibson; her son, Casey (Autumn) Nail; her mother, Maggie Potter; her cherished grandpup, Daisy; and her beloved grandcat, Rose. She is also survived by her sisters, Susie (Scott) Rushing and Lucy (Stephen) Langley; and her sisters-in-law, Lynn Thompson and Lisa (Robert) Stuart.
She leaves behind a loving extended family including her nieces, Jessie (Clay) Gilliam, Madison (Taylor) Richardson, Holly (Clint) Campbell, Stephanie (JC) Smith, and Sarah (Zack) Pittman; her nephews, Brandon (Susan) Rushing, JoJo (Chelsea) Rushing, Kaleb York, Evan Langley, and Bo (Jenn) Thompson; and her beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, Blair, Camryn, Rylee Rose, Ava, Charley Lane, Ross, Avery, Nicolas, Levi, Reagan, Stella, Norah, Warren, and Alaina.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Potter; her first husband, Marty Nail; her in-laws, Murline and Sonny Gibson; and her nephew, Justin Thompson.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the American Cancer Society Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge for the care and support provided during her cancer journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Hope Lodge in Birmingham, Alabama.
Lisa will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to her family, and the joy she brought to those around her. She treasured time spent with her loved ones and found happiness in the simple moments shared with family and friends. The memories she created and the love she gave so freely will be cherished forever.
Though her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, strength, kindness, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
