Obituary for L. C. McGee

L. C. McGee, Jr., age 96, of Columbus, Mississippi passed, at Trinity Healthcare, from his earthly life on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. He was born August 29, 1929, in Lamar County, Alabama. His parents were Louis C. McGee and Georgie Lou Sprouse McGee.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 16, at 11:00 at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 with Rev. Paul McDonald officiating. Interment and graveside services will be at Friendship Cemetery in Columbus. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

L. C. moved to Columbus in 1941. He graduated from Stephen D. Lee High School. He served four years in the United States Navy, 1948-1952. On December 8, 1952, he married Betty Wallace and they enjoyed 74 years together.

He was an active and involved member of Central United Methodist Church, Covenant United Methodist Church, and Christ Covenant Church.

Always active in the community, he was a past president of the Magnolia Kiwanis Club. His employment and business ownership provided opportunities for him to be a valuable citizen and close friend to many people who knew him as “Gee” or “Daddy Gee.”

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert J. (Bob) McGee. He is survived by his wife, Betty, daughter Melanie McGee Denny, son M. L. McGee and his wife Lorene, daughter Margaret McGee Hayward and her husband Eddie, and six grandchildren.

Pall bearers are Michael Hayward, Daniel Hayward, Steven Jenkins, Larry Scott, Randy Burris, and Jackie Triplett.

The family appreciates the loving care provided by Octavia Stowers, Tammy King and the staff of Trinity Healthcare.
