Julia M. Phillips

August 30, 1940 — December 25, 2023

Julia Stuart Marshall Phillips, age 83, of Columbus, MS, passed away December 25, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 11:00 AM at First Methodist Church of Columbus with Dr. Rev. Vaughn Stafford officiating.  The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the service in Carolyn's Room of First Methodist Church.  Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Phillips was born August 30, 1940, in Wytheville, VA, to the late Arthur Austin and Lucy Raper Marshall, Jr.  She was a graduate of Lee High School, MSCW, and received her masters degree from the University of Alabama in social work.  Mrs. Phillips was the Director of Volunteer Services at Golden Triangle Regional Medical Center for a number of years and also was an early intervention specialist for the MS Dept. of Human Services for approximately 15 years.  She was a member of First Methodist Church of Columbus and was a life member of the Columbus Junior Auxiliary.  Mrs. Phillips was also a member of the Belfluer Garden Club and also enjoyed volunteering with Hearts After School Tutoring Program, Contact Helpline, and was a Lee Home Docent.
Survivors include her children, Mary Margaret Swedenburg and her husband Steve of Columbus, MS, Bob Phillips and his wife Kathryn of Columbus, MS, Mandy Hannon and her husband Scott of Columbus, MS, and Stuart Phillips and his wife Kallie of Gulf Breeze, FL, brother, Austin Marshall of Tupelo, MS, grandchildren, Will Swedenburg and his wife Betsy, Wesley Swedenburg and his wife Margaret, Tyner Swedenburg, Brooke Hill and her husband Blake, Bill Phillips, Beth Killebrew and her husband Jon Marc, Blake Phillips and his wife Anna Claire, Gunter Phillips, Jack Hannon, Sam Hannon, Arthur Phillips, Axel Phillips, and Senah Rose Phillips, and 7 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and Blake Hill.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Trinity who loved her and took wonderful care of her.
