Joshua Miles Pitman

Joshua Miles Pitman, age 44, passed away Saturday August 22, 2026 at his residence in Columbus. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 3:00pm at Mt. Vernon Church with a gathering of friends and family one hour prior to the service. The family requests guests to honor Josh by wearing blue to the service.

Josh was born on October 28, 1981 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to the late David Alan Pitman and Deborah Weaver.

After serving in The United States Air Force from 2001-2008, he began his steel career  with Severstal/SDI, starting in Shipping and working his way through the Temper Mill, Caster, and eventually Technical Service. In February 2023, Josh joined Big River Steel, where he worked in the Technical Service department, most recently as Manager of Technical Service - Continuous Improvement. 

On May 1, 2010, Josh married the love of his life, Rachel and together had 3 children, Addison, Chloe, and Wesley.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his mother, Debbie Weaver; grandmother, Joyce Carter; sisters, Jessie Layman (Mitchell) and Candace Medlock (Toby); and a host of nieces, nephews, in laws, and friends.
