JOHN LINE - John Cedric Line, age 73, of Columbus, MS, passed away July 3, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The interment will immediately follow at Andrews Chapel Cemetery near Ethelsville, AL, with military honors. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory.
Mr. Line was born May 12, 1952, in Columbus, MS, to the late Herman Junior and Mary Jane Ruffin Line. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a SGT in the Army 82nd Airborne Division, a paratrooper and a trainer, expert marksman M-16 and M-60. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from President Richard Nixon and received a Citizenship Award from the City of Houghton, MI, for saving a man's life from a burning boat. Mr. Line also worked for the Department of Federal Services for a number of years. He moved back to Columbus after volunteering with the hurricane Katrina and was always helping the homeless and less fortunate. He loved animals, gardening, cooking, watching birds, and was a mechanic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Line and David Line.
Survivors include his daughter, Rachel Vermeesch and her husband Brad of Chesterfield, MI, son Joshua Line and his wife Michelle of Las Vegas, NV, son, Clinton Helms and his wife Jennifer of Caledonia, MS, sister, Olivia Line of Columbus, MS, 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 2 nephews, and 1 niece.
