Listen to Obituary

Jewell Brown Woodward left this world for her eternal home of Heaven on January 8th, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on June 24, 1932, in Gordo, Alabama to Eulie and Mattie Lou Brown.

Jewell was a devoted and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was affectionately known to her loved ones as Nanny, Ms. Jewell, and JewJew.

Jewell and Bob married in 1959 and made their home for 36 years in Mobile, Alabama. Upon retirement, they moved to Columbus, Mississippi where they were surrounded by many family members and long-time friends. Much joy came in living near her sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was considered the matriarch of the Brown Family as she outlived her brother and sisters.

Jewell was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, and she loved teaching the Esther SS Class, serving on the Bereavement Committee, and participating in the 55 plus ministry. She used her gift of a servant heart by making many meals for family, neighbors, and friends. The family Christmas Eve Celebration was never complete without her Cornbread Dressing and German Chocolate Cake.

In 2007, her husband Bob passed away after 48 years of marriage. Jewell moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 2020 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She spent many days as a prayer warrior on Lisa and Randy’s porch and had the joy of seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren regularly.

Jewell loved her Lord and Savior and lived a life of service to Him by sharing her love with others. Her motto through all circumstances was “Choose JOY”.

Jewell was preceded in death by her husband Robert T. (Bob) Woodward, her parents Eulie and Mattie Lou Brown, her brother Randolph Brown,  and her sisters Catherine Ray, Jean James, and Faye Crosby.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Felder (Randy), granddaughter, Ashley Felder Claborn (Ryan), grandson, Chadd Felder (Erin), and four cherished great grandchildren, Milly, Brantley, Maddie, and Bennett. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly.

Pallbearers will be the following: Jeff Abrams, Reuben Atkinson, Billy Aultman, Donnie Brown, Eric Cox, Neal Cox, Keith James, Butch Reed, and Lee Shackelford.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 11th, 2026, at 2:00 at Fairview Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, where many wonderful memories were made.
