Mrs. Hunt was born March 11, 1931, at the home of her parents, in Sumterville, AL, to the late Andrew Elias, Sr., and Alice Fulton Ramsay. She grew up in her ancestral home, Farview, in west-central Alabama, built in the early 1830s and home of her great, great grandfather. The oldest of four siblings, Jane exhibited a God-given talent for music at an early age. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Judson College in Marion, AL, and her Masters of Music Education from Mississippi State University (MSU). While teaching piano in her home studio, Jane raised three children and maintained numerous church music positions. She later began her career as Professor of Music (Piano) in the Department of Music at MSU, where she taught and mentored piano students for 25 years. She also participated in various university choral, symphonic, and other musical functions, including singing and/or playing with the Meister Singers and numerous graduation and other university events. Her dedication to church music continued throughout her lifetime and even into her retirement years. She truly was a minister of music, serving churches including Sumterville Presbyterian, Aldersgate United Methodist (Starkville), and First Presbyterian on Main Street in Columbus. Jane also served at First Methodist in Columbus and ultimately retired from First Presbyterian church in Columbus in 2018 at the age of 88 years. Her love for the Lord and music were passed on to her children, who serve musically in their respective churches and/or communities. As well as being a musician, she authored a book, Farview: Then and Now , about her ancestral home.
Jane was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all. She was a wonderful, caring person, always putting others first in her thoughts. She was a great encourager and always generous to family and friends.
