James Michael Prencipe, Jr.
September 2, 1958 – June 9, 2025
James “Jim” Michael Prencipe, Jr., after his courageous journey with cancer, passed away on June 9, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on September 2, 1958, in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, Jim lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and a heart as big as his smile.
Jim was a proud graduate of Ridgway Area High School, where he excelled in both basketball and football. His athletic talents and academic prowess led him to Carnegie Mellon University. While at CMU, he continued to develop both athletically on the football field and academically earning a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science — setting the stage for a remarkable 44-year career. Jim dedicated his professional life to metallurgical engineering with a focus in automotive development, spending his final ten years with Steel Dynamics, Columbus, Mississippi.
He was the beloved husband of Patty (Szczotka) Prencipe who were married in St. Marys, Pennsylvania on June 20, 1981. He was the proud father of James III “Jimmy” Prencipe (LauRon) and Trisha Boccia (Paul). Nothing brought him more joy than being Papa to his grandchildren — Jayden, Lydia, Sofia, James IV, and William.
Jim shared a close bond with his siblings — Bonnie McMahan (Tom), Renee Prencipe, and Bill Prencipe — and carried the memory of his parents, James Sr. and Dorothy Minor Prencipe, with him throughout his life.
He spent many years coaching youth sports, including basketball, softball, and baseball — often coaching his own children and positively shaping the lives of countless young athletes. He also treasured his time hunting with friends and family, especially with his son, Jimmy — a shared tradition they both held dear.
Jim’s love for sports never faded. He was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and even named his beloved dog Rocky after the legendary Rocky Bleier. His passion for the game was matched only by his joy in watching his grandchildren play — a true full-circle moment for a lifelong athlete and coach.
At the core of everything Jim did was his relationship with God. Jim accepted Christ as his Savior as an adult, putting his faith and trust in Jesus and allowing that decision to guide the rest of his life. He lived his faith through kindness, humility, and service. He was always ready to help, listen, or lend a hand. He led by example — in how he treated others, how he gave without expectation, and how he shared Christ’s love in quiet, powerful ways.
Jim was often affectionately called “Big Jim”, not just for his stature, but for his huge heart and unwavering desire to serve others. His presence made people feel seen, valued, and loved. He was a light in the lives of so many — a steady, faithful man whose impact will be felt for generations.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to family and friends for their love and support through this journey. A special thankyou to the incredible medical staff who held their hands, cried with them, and treated Jim with compassionate care.
