Obituary Ivy Bryan Coleman
Ivy B. Coleman, beloved friend, brother, and son, age 90 went home to be with Jesus on January 4, 2026 at Windsor Place Skilled-Nursing Center in Columbus, Mississippi.
Ivy was born on October 3, 1935 in Monroe County, Mississippi to Martha Rosie Honnoll Coleman and Henry McGrady Coleman. Ivy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Korea and Japan. He began his military training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. During his time in the Army, he was recognized for his leadership and technical proficiency and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After receiving an honorable discharge, he went to work at Airline Manufacturing Company in Columbus where he became a valuable employee and friend of the Williamson family, the company owners. Ivy remained employed at Airline until he retired at age 65. Ivy was an excellent electrician, plumber, and cabinet maker, and he was always willing to use his time and skills to lend a helping hand to those in need. He also enjoyed being outdoors and was an expert gardener and always had a large vegetable garden as well as beautiful, productive fruit trees. He always made sure to plant more than he needed, so he could generously share with friends and family members. In addition to his parents, Ivy was preceded in death by his brothers Arthur Daniel Coleman, William Quitman Coleman, sister Agnes Coleman Gardner, and niece Sherry Coleman Uresti. He is survived by two nieces, Diane Gardner Baker (Jimmy), Vanita Gardner McMullin (Bill) and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers include Benny Coleman, Matt Coleman, Rufus Mason, Scott Williamson, Don Paul Brooks, Jeff Brooks, Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John King, Dr. Chris Galjour, Jeff Britt, Roy Shepherd, John Baker, David McMullin, Aaron Williamson, Brent Williamson, Neil Williamson, Shane Brooks, Zack Brooks and Tony Brooks.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home Columbus, MS on January 10 from 1:00-2:00. The funeral service will be conducted by Kris Hollis, great-nephew, in the Chapel at Memorial at 2:00. Interment with U.S. Army Honors will be at Egger Cemetery near Caledonia, MS.
