Glenn Douglas “Skip” Spitler age 83 died Thursday June 19, 2025 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville. Funeral services will be held Monday June 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kenny Gardner officiating; burial with U.S. Army Honors will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Mr. Spitler was born on May 26, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Glenn Hunter Spitler, and Catherine Vogt Spitler. He was retired from the U.S. Army. After his military service he at one time or another, worked as and EMT, for The Forestry Commission and later as a lineman for an electric association. Glenn was well known by the neighborhood kids as someone they could count on when the chain came off their bicycles or they needed air in their tire. Even after he left to go for rehab the neighborhood kids could still be found going to his house for help. On April 27, 2009 he joined Contact Helpline where he faithfully served as a crisis line counselor and reassurance worker for over a decade. With a calm voice, a caring heart, and listening ear, he offered help to countless callers. He was known for his warm spirit, his love of coffee, his beloved cat, and the quiet peace he displayed. At every event, you could count on him to bring his favorite dish, either potato salad or chips, and a good story. The folks at Contact Helpline fondly referred to him as “the only rooster in the hen house.” He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Dr. Diane Louise Spitler.

His caretakers would like to send a special thanks you to Dr. Richard Kessy, and the staff of OCH Medical Center, and his neighbors that kept an eye in him, Mike Turner, and Richard Gardner.
