Mrs. Eula Clayton Davis, 85, of Columbus, MS passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 at her residence in Columbus. She was born in Meridian, MS and lived in many places as an Air Force wife, including Selma, AL; Homestead, FL; Minot, ND, Madrid, Spain; Columbus, MS; and later in life as a pastor’s wife, in Brandon, MS and Florence, MS. Her final years were spent near her youngest daughter, Nora, in Columbus, MS.
Eula was married to Leonard Eugene Clayton, Sr. for forty-five years, until his passing in 2001. She is survived by their five children: Leonard Eugene Clayton, Jr. (Gene) and wife Glenda of St. Paul, MN, Marsha Jelane Cleaveland and husband David of Phoenix, AZ, Lora Teresa Wolfe (Terry) and husband Jim of Tucson, AZ, Timothy Albert Clayton (Tim) and wife Lisa of Millbrook, AL, and Leonora Suzanne Harmon (Nora) and husband Wesley of Columbus, MS; thirteen beloved grandchildren; eight cherished great-grandchildren; and four siblings, James R. Jones of Meridian, MS, Janie Singley of Butler, AL, Janice White Hayes of Meridian, and Ron Jones of Meridian, MS.
Mrs. Davis was a talented cook who made a career of feeding the community. Some of her work experiences include being the cafeteria manager in the Dallas County Schools (AL); assistant cafeteria manager at MUW; and cafeteria manager for Coca-Cola at Seminole Mill in Columbus before her retirement. During one period of her life, she broadened her dressmaking skills to include upholstery and made slipcovers as a side business.
Later in life, she married Rev. Walter L. Davis of Brandon, MS (from 2009 until his passing in 2016). She was loved by the people of Crystal Springs Assembly of God church where Rev. Davis served as pastor in his retirement. She was also loved by many dear friends from The Assembly in Columbus, where she served in many ways throughout the years. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served as Girl's Club(Missionette) leader, helped lead Women's Ministries and participated in various other volunteer positions.
Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm at The Assembly Church; burial will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements. Family will serve as pallbearers.
