Clara Jean Moore Mordecai. 91, went into the arms of Jesus on Christmas day at Trinity Health Center. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 28, 2025 at 2pm at Memorial Funeral Home with Reverend Melvin Mordecai, her nephew, officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Lamar County, AL. Visitation will be held at 12pm until time of service.
Clara Jean, “Jean” to her friends and co-workers, but Clara Jean to her family, was born in Kennedy, AL on October 30, 1934. She was the 2nd child of 5 children of the late Fred Moore and Roberta Trull Moore. Jean graduated from Kennedy High School, class of 1953. She married Grady Richard “GR” Mordecai, JR. on May 2, 1953. Jean and GR owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store, Mordecai’s Grocery, for 30 years. Upon retirement from the grocery business, she worked at Caledonia High School where the 1999 high school annual was dedicated to her for her outstanding service. She was a faithful member of Shaeffer’s Chapel Methodist Church. Jean was very proud of and enjoyed supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and performances.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Jerry and Joe Moore, and sister, Bernice Bryant and her precious grandson, Nathan Mordecai.
She is survived by her brother, Freddy (Lavonne) Moore, her son, Ricky (Diana) Mordecai, daughters, Gwen (Mike) Burks, Ramona (Mark) Farrar, Priscilla (Adam) Earhart, her beloved grandchildren, Shane (Hope) Kesler, Shannon (Bradley) Coker, Jordan (Kandace) Mordecai, Lacy (Robert) Cooper, ClaraAnn(Andrew) Pack, Willie Farrar, Elle (Keonne) Whitaker, Gracie Farrar, Parker (Bethany) Earhart, John Dalton Eahart, Mordecai Earhart, a well as her precious great grandchildren, Paul, Seth, Clay, Ana Collins, Henry, Mary Blake, Avie, Hadlee, Hayes, Wells, Bo Thomas and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shane Kesler, Jordan Mordecai, Robert Cooper, Willie Farrar, Andrew Pack, Bradley Coker, Parker Earhart, John Dalton Earhart, Mordecai Earhart, Keonne Whitaker and Nathan Mordecai, grandson in spirit.
