Carol Logan Wheat

January 15, 1941 — July 5, 2024

Carol Logan Wheat was a beloved grandmother, mother and wife during her incredible 83 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Friday, July 5, 2024.

Carol was born on January 15, 1941, to Wheeler and Mary Leigh Logan in Steens, Mississippi. She graduated from Caledonia High School in 1958.

In 1956, Carol Ann met Elbert Wheat at a friend's wedding. They were married on January 30, 1959. Carol and Elbert were married for 65 years and had two sons, Greg and Michael, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Carol worked alongside her husband, Elbert, for 43 years in the insurance industry, most notable as the owners of Wheat Insurance Agency in Columbus, Mississippi. The two found great joy working alongside each other and treated all customers as family.

Carol will be remembered for her love of flowers, kind heart, and her southern cooking. She was a faithful member of Columbus Church Christ. Throughout her life, she journeyed alongside Elbert as he preached at multiple congregations in Mississippi and Alabama.

She is survived by husband- Elbert Wheat; sons- Greg Wheat (Robin), Michael Wheat; grandchildren- Elizabeth Wheat Laster (Seth), Tyler Wheat (Jesy); nephew- Dickie Logan (Julie); niece- Elizabeth “Henri” Logan Day (Jim); and great grandchildren- Ty Laster, Rileigh Laster, Jace Laster, and Georgia Kate Wheat. Carol was preceded in death by brother Terry Logan and parents Wheeler and Mary Leigh Logan.

Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel 716 2nd Ave N on Tuesday, July 9th with Ministers Paul Bennett and Tyler Wheat officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., with funeral to follow.

Serving as pallbearers will be, William Betts, Seth Laster, Dickson Logan, Tommy Vaughn, Gene Hawkins, and Allen Jones

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Richie Wilson, James Guin, Mike Smith, Jerry Harrell, Perry Bush, Harold Pounders, nurses & staff of Trinity Place Personal Care Home, Lacy Freeman, and Michael Smith

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lone Oak Cemetery Fund.
