Byron Eugene Gregg, age 95, of Columbus, MS, passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital on November 4, 2025. Born to Ezra and Laudia Gregg in Birmingham, AL on October 21, 1930. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 51 years, Martha Jo Gregg, son, Byron Eugene Gregg, Jr., daughter, Ruth Gregg Hines, sons-in-law, Algie L. Green, Jr., and William Henry Gurley.
He is survived by his son, Timothy B. Gregg (Theresa); daughters, Barbara Gregg Meyer and Emily Green; daughter-in-law, Kathy Gurley; grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Byron was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He began civil service as a GS-3 and retired from service at the Columbus Air Force Base as a G-11. He was a graduate of Mosey Business College in Birmingham, AL. He was a mason in chapter 1388 and a long-time member of First Baptist Church Columbus. He especially enjoyed the fellowship of his Sunday School class and the leadership of his teacher, Glenn Lautzenheiser.
Pallbearers include his son, Timothy B. Gregg, grandsons, Skylar Gregg, Neil Green, Bryant Simpson, and Steven Simpson, great friend, Ira Fuqua. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Lautzenheiser, Sam Medore, Dennis Coleman, Jeff Moore, Jim Prouty, Ron Cooke, Clyde Stokes, and special friends, Amber Pennington, Angelia Simpson, Floretta “Penny” Deloach, and David and Jeannie King.
A celebration of life is set for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Cuthbertson officiating. Burial with U.S. Air Force honors will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
