William Elliott “Bill” Gavin, age 74, of Columbus, MS, passed away May 27, 2024, at his residence.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 31, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM at Fairview Baptist Church. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gavin was born September 23, 1949, in Columbus, MS, to the late Vester Berry and Cleo Rambo Gavin. He was a graduate of Lee High School, and received his associates degree from East Mississippi Community College, and his bachelors and masters degrees from Mississippi State University. Mr. Gavin taught drafting in the engineering department at Mississippi State and East Mississippi Community College and designed residential house plans for his own company, Residential Design Services. He served as city councilman for 12 years and was a former member of Magnolia Tennis Club and the Columbus Host Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Gavin. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Tammy Maners Gavin of Columbus, MS; first wife, Mary June Rankin of Brandon, MS; and daughter, Cori Lynn Gavin of Biloxi, MS.
Pallbearers will be Blake Bradford, James Edward Heard, Jr., Kevin Stafford, Jay Jordan, Steve Rogers and George Irby.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Vondron, Gene Goldman, Teddy Landers, Sonny Brocato, Billy Holliman, Charlie Rhea, Dan Cunningham and all the many friends of the family.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
