AVERY DUNCAN - Avery Dowdle Duncan, Jr., entered Heaven on August 22, 2026. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Black officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM at Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mr. Duncan was born April 2, 1947, at Columbus Hospital to the late Avery Duncan, Sr. and Frances Kidd Duncan. In the early years he was called "Pistol." He was a 1965 graduate of Caledonia High School and attended EMCC in Scooba. He was a staff Sergeant E6 in the Army National Guard and retired from Cash and Carry Building Supply in Columbus after 40 years.

A devoted member of his community, he was an avid supporter and bus driver for the Caledonia High School band for several years even after his children graduated, and also served as Caledonia High School Band Boosters President. He was a bus driver for 13 years and was a familiar voice at Caledonia football games as the announcer until 2019. He was a volunteer fireman for many years and served as Caledonia Fire Chief.  He also served on the board of Monroe County Electric for many years.  A lifelong member of Flint Hill Church, he loved his family, church family, and community.

He is surived by wife, Diane McPherson Duncan and was preceded in death by wife, Dee Duncan. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Donna Duncan Norsworthy, grandparents, Raymond and Ortense Dowdle Duncan, and William and Annie Maude Kidd. He was also preceded in death by an uncle, Gregory Duncan. He is also survived by daughter, Natalie Duncan (Michael) of Caledonia, sons, Kelly Duncan (Lauren) of Olive Branch and Casey Duncan of Southaven, brother, Dale Duncan of Caledonia, MS, sister, Gale Dawkins (Lynn) of Columbus, MS, and grandchildren, Addie Kate, Charli Beth, and Avery Ann Duncan of Olive Branch, nieces, Tara Dawkins Hurt, Lori Dawkins Story, and Chastity Bowles, nephews, Lance Dawkins and Tyson Norsworthy, and cousins Mott Ellis and Marilyn Powell, who were like sisters to him, and aunt Laurene Robinson, and other cousins and family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Flint Hill Church, 164 Old Honnoll Mill Rd., Caledonia, MS, 39740, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
