ANNE MITCHELL
Anne Marie (Dunphy) Mitchell passed away in Kennesaw, GA on September 26, 2025. Anne was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, and educated at Saint Vincent’s (Girls) High School, Saint John High School, and McGill University in Montreal. She served as an excellent Physiotherapist in Saint John and was the President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She pursued graduate studies at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation, in Georgia. From the Roosevelt Institute she moved to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA as a physical therapist and then worked in many communities in Mississippi especially in the region of Columbus for many years.
She is survived by her children Jay Bryan Mitchell III, Angela Mitchell, and John Mitchell (Shannel) and grandchildren Travis, Charlotte, Jacob, and Rosie, as well as her sister-in-law Helen Cork (Ben) and nephews Ben Cork (Chere) Jr., Thomas Cork (Helen) and Spencer Cork. She is also survived by her brother John Dunphy (Patricia), sons Craig Dunphy (Sheila) and Paul Dunphy (Janise) and nine nephews and nieces and their children.
Anne was predeceased by her husband Jay Bryan Mitchell Jr., her parents Daniel and Bella Dunphy, and her brothers, Ronald Dunphy (Mary) and Michael Dunphy (Rita).
Anne and Jay, were married 63 years, lived in various communities in Mississippi where Jay worked in the insurance and auto-repair industries before settling in Columbus, MS. Anne was an active member of Annunciation Catholic Church, serving on the parish council, the school board (Annunciation Catholic School) and proclaiming readings at Sunday masses. As a physical therapist, Anne worked at Baptist Hospital for ten years and later qualified as one of the four geriatric therapists in MS, and for three years she worked in Aliceville Nursing Home. Anne treasured the friends she made over the years. She enjoyed her community activities with Scrappers Quilting Guild, Les Amies Book Club, and Grand Slam Bridge Club. Anne and Jay enjoy traveling with many journeys to Saint John, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, as well as trips to western US and western Canada.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held Wednesday October 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
