MARY ALICE BOBO

Mary Alice Bobo, 89, passed away peacefully on May 8 , 2025, in hospice at The Windsor Place. She was born on November 14, 1935, in Caledonia, Mississippi to the late Robert Walter and Maggie Underwood. 

After graduating from Caledonia High School in 1953, Alice began her career as a bookkeeper. A few years later, she met her sweetheart Alvin Bobo, and they married on July 19, 1958, and begin their life together in Columbus, Mississippi. Over the years, Alice worked for Russell Wholesale as a bookkeeper for 21 years and then retired from Graham Fabrics after 32 years of service. After retiring, she volunteered at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. Alice was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church since 1953 and will be remembered for her servant’s heart. Whether she was teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, volunteering for Vacation Bible School, or just visiting friends in the hospital or nursing home, Alice was a devoted friend to many and always a good listener to those that needed some encouragement. Alice loved the Lord, and this was truly reflective in the life she lived and her love for family and friends. She always thought of others before herself. 

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her son, Lyle Bobo, brother, James Underwood, sister, Irene Smith and nephew, Mitchell Smith. She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Alvin Bobo, and her grandsons Austin Bobo, Jacksonville, FL, and Nathan Bobo (Sydnie) of Newnan Georgia. She is also survived by her two nieces Deborah Stahl (Greg) of Houston Texas, Carmen (Danny) Booker of Yukon, Oklahoma, one nephew, Michael Smith of Monterey, CA, daughter in law, Kay Cannady (Mike), Green Cove Springs, Florida and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at Bethel Baptist Church, 3232 Military Road, Columbus, MS 39705. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
