Mary Elizabeth “Dollie” Park Thigpen, 100, died December 26, 2015 at her home in Columbus after an extended illness. She was born on January 18, 1915 in Nettleton to William Henry Park and Delpha Gurtrude Whitehead Park. She was a Baptist. She and her late husband, Carlton Bruce Thigpen enjoyed traveling to historical places. Many of her friends enjoyed her gifts, food and personal care. She often “adopted” someone in a nursing facility to provide an additional level of comfort to their life.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29 at Oddfellows Cemetery in Aberdeen.
Survivors include her niece, Tommie Cheek Haile and her husband James of Mount Dora, Florida, her nephew Bill Cheek and his wife Jamie of Nettleton, great niece Lisa, great nephews Scott, Bradley and Patrick.
She was preceded in death by her husband whom she married on December 24, 1941, her parents, a sister, Erdis Cheek Johnson and a brother, Marcellus Park.
