Mike Wood

Benny Michael "Mike" Wood, age 68, of Gulf Shores, AL , formerly of Columbus, MS , passed away January 3, 2018, at his residence. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 6, 2018, at 1:00 PM at Memorial Gunter Peel Chapel 2nd Ave. location with Rev. Durwood Stanton officiating. The interment will follow at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery near Ackerman, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

Mr. Wood was born November 22, 1949, in Ackerman, MS , to the late Sanford and Lucelle Sanders Wood. He graduated from Ackerman High School in 1967 and continued his education at Holmes Junior College , graduating in 1969. He also served in the Army National Guard. Mike was co-founder and owner of Data Systems Management, Inc. of Columbus and Jackson, MS . In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Marshall Wood, Warren Wood, and Darrell Wood, and sisters, Minerva Sledge and Margaret Wood.

Survivors include his wife Debbie Wood of Gulf Shores, AL , sons, Michael Wood of Columbus, MS , Taylor Wood and his wife Penny of Brandon, MS, Jason Gable and his wife Stacy of Trinity, AL, daughters, Nikki Hankins and her husband Ronnie of Gulf Shores, AL, and Natalie Whorton of Mantee, MS . He was known as "Pepaw" to 11 grandchildren, and sister, Pat Bowie and her husband Jack of Ackerman, MS.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Hankins, Monty Yates, Don Sledge, Elvis Sledge, Jr., Roy Doug, Mark Wood, Joe Cobb, Tommy "T. C." Clark, and Jerry Blake. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38101.
